Richard Adam Gutsin

June 12, 1963 — June 5, 2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Richard Adam Gutsin, in Wilmington NC, on June 5, 2025. Despite being diagnosed with kidney cancer in 2019, his death was unexpected, and arose from complications due to an infection. In his typical fashion, Dr. G continued to work throughout his years of cancer treatments and dialysis sessions, facing each day with determination.

Left to cherish his Memory and honor his life; his wife Suzi Wexler-Gutsin, his partner since the summer of 1981, when they met at summer camp. His daughter Jeffrianne, who he fondly called his "Sweetpea", and his Son Alex, his “Little Buddy,” who will miss too many things about his dad to list. He is also survived by his mother Roslyn Ksiez, and her brother, Nat Greenspan, his twin brother, his "wombmate" as he liked to say, Kenneth Gutsin, and his youngest brother Steven Gutsin and their families, as well as his two sisters, not just by marriage, but by love, Allison Wexler, and Staci Wexler Mostyn and her husband Corey, and their children, Sydnie, Jamie, and Andrew to whom Uncle Rich was a father figure, friend and mentor.

He was blessed to have loyal staff throughout the years at Magnolia Family Medicine and wishes to thank Staci, Laura, Roz, Melanie, Hanne, Kajal, and many others for sharing his passion for providing quality care. Rich also had a very close group of childhood friends who celebrated annual Shenanigans, despite them being spread out across the country, Paul, John G., John M., Gary, Larry, Mike, and Rob. He hopes that you continue to toast him on Friday nights. until you meet again.

Dr Gutsin was a pillar of primary care in our community, he was an educator, a life long learner, and an advocate for all. Those lucky enough to be in his inner circle were blessed with his unique perspectives, insights and love. In his honor, he asks that you continue going to doctor appointments, take your medications as directed, express your concerns freely, and hug your family and friends a little tighter, and a little more often.

A remembrance of his life and legacy will be held Saturday, July 19, 2025 at 11am at Wilmington Funeral & Cremation 1535 S. 41st Street, Wilmington, NC 28403.

Consider making a donation in his honor to the Lower Cape Fear Lifecare Center, Nourish NC, the Autism Society or to any cause close to your heart.
