Castle Hayne - Dr. Richard Alan Berg, a distinguished neuropsychologist and beloved husband, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2026, in Wilmington, North Carolina, at the age of 73. Born on March 30, 1953, in Albany, New York, Richard lived a life marked by dedication to his profession, love for his family, and a passion for travel and community.
Richard pursued his academic journey with enthusiasm, earning his Bachelor's Degree from SUNY Buffalo before achieving his doctorate at the University of Houston. After moving to Wilmington, he spent the next 25 years in private practice, where he was particularly proud of his work with the Federal Aviation Administration, assisting pilots and air traffic controllers. Beyond his professional achievements, Richard was a man of varied interests. He loved to travel, with a special fondness for cruises that allowed him to explore the world. At home, he cherished socializing with friends and neighbors and found joy and tranquility in participating in a local yoga group. His commitment to community was evident through his past service on the River Bluffs advisory board.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Gunter and Sylvia Berg and brother, Michael Berg and spouse, C. J. Prince. He is survived by his devoted wife, Cynthia Frederick, and his cousins, Doris Fischer Malesardi and Alisa Berg, who will all miss him dearly.
