Southport - Lynn Throber Henry, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and dedicated marine biologist, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2025, in Brunswick County, NC, at the age of 68. Born on July 13, 1956, in Bertie County, NC, Lynn devoted his life to both his family and his work, leaving behind a legacy of passion, commitment, and love for nature.
Lynn spent over 30 years as a respected Marine Biologist with the North Carolina Division of Marine Fisheries. His dedication to understanding and preserving marine ecosystems was evident in every aspect of his career. His work not only enriched the scientific community but also inspired future generations to protect our natural world.
An avid outdoorsman, Lynn found joy in fishing, water skiing, kayaking, scuba diving, snorkeling, and spending time at the beach. He was also passionate about duck and swan hunting, finding peace and camaraderie in nature's beauty. His love for the outdoors was matched only by his commitment to his community; he served as a dedicated volunteer for the Boiling Spring Lakes Fire and Rescue and was a member of the Roanoke Chowan Wildlife Club.
Lynn was a proud alumnus of NC State University, where he cultivated a lifelong love of learning and exploration. He was preceded in death by his daughter Jessica Lynn Henry, father Lee Stanley Henry, mother Catherine Perry Henry, sister Alice Henry Wilson, and brother Patrick Lee Henry.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Rose Johnson Henry, his son Christopher Lee Henry, and daughter-in-law Shanna Danielle Henry. He leaves behind cherished granddaughters Kaylee Rose Henry and Emma Grace Henry, who will carry forward his legacy of love and adventure.
In honor of Lynn's wishes, no services are planned at this time.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare or Boiling Spring Lakes Fire & Rescue, organizations that were close to Lynn’s heart.
Lynn Throber Henry will be remembered for his warm spirit, his unwavering dedication to his family and work, and his profound love for the great outdoors. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
