Chapel Hill -Kevin Bryant Twine, 65, passed away on January 6, 2026 in Wilmington North Carolina. Born October 17, 1960 in Washington DC, Kevin grew up in Edenton, N.C. He graduated from Chowan High School and UNC Chapel Hill.
Before graduating from college, Kevin took a break in the 80's from his studies to travel as a pianist with New Directions, a music ministry group that traveled and performed in the US and Haiti. He was a member to many churches over the years in Washington DC and North Carolina where he shared his gift as a piano player from a very early age.
Kevin was a gentle soul and connected very well with older adults. Having retired from the DC Government several years ago, he relocated to Chapel Hill where he volunteered at Parkview Health and Rehabilitation Center. One of his most significant accomplishments while there was raising funds for a keyboard which allowed him to share his gift of music with the residents. He attended Binkley Baptist Church, a place that gave him a sense of comfort and acceptance while also sharing his gift on occasion.
Kevin is survived by his sister, Linda Cruz; brother-in-law, George Cruz from Key West, FL; stepsister, Glenda P. Smith from Plymouth, NC and is preceded in death by his father, Joseph Benjamin (Benny) Twine; mother, Joyce Twine Phelps and stepfather, Raymond E Phelps.
Kevin was loved and adored by many and will fondly be remembered for his kind, loving spirit. Most of all, the gift of music he shared will forever live in the hearts and soul of many.
Celebrations of life will be held in North Carolina and Washington DC, to be determined at a later date.
