Keith Dewayne Gray

Hampstead -Keith Dewayne Gray, 59, of Hampstead, North Carolina, passed away on September 25, 2026.

Keith was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, coach, and friend. He was the beloved husband of Kimberly Gray and a proud father to Sam Nairwood, Keith Gray (Kandace) Kyle Gray, and Korteney Gray.

Keith was preceded in death by his parents, James Gray and Alice Gray.

Family was the center of Keith’s life. He cherished his time with his grandchildren—Sawyer Nairwood, Silas Jones, Elizabeth Elizondo, Karlea Gray, Keaton Gray, and Kalloway Gray. Some of his happiest moments were spent surrounded by them making memories, sharing laughs, and simply enjoying watching them grow.

He cherished his siblings; his sister, Lisa Gray and brother, Jamie Gray (Meg); as well as several nieces and nephews.

Keith had a lifelong love of baseball and dedicated 15 years to coaching, a role that became about much more than the game itself. He poured his heart into coaching the kids he worked with, teaching them about baseball while also teaching them about teamwork, commitment, perseverance, respect, and having fun along the way. Coaching brought Keith tremendous joy, and the relationships he built with the kids and their families meant so much to him. For the players he coached, Keith was more than a coach—he was someone who believed in them, encouraged them, and helped make a lasting difference in their lives.

When he wasn’t at the ball field, Keith could often be found doing another thing he loved—fishing. He enjoyed the peace of being on the water and the time spent outdoors, but just as importantly, he enjoyed the memories made along the way.

Keith will be remembered for his love of family, his passion for baseball, his dedication to the young people he coached, and the countless memories he created with those around him. He gave his time generously and found happiness in seeing the people he loved happy.

His greatest legacy will live on through his children, grandchildren, the players he coached, and everyone fortunate enough to have called him husband, Dad, Grandpa, Uncle, Coach, or friend.
