Georgia Porter

Hampstead - After several years living with chronic illness, Georgia Glazier Porter of Hampstead, NC passed away Thursday, March 19, 2026 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. She was born Georgia Elizabeth Guthrie on September 12, 1963 in Wilmington, NC to the late Kermit Guthrie, Jr and Laurie McDaniel of Wilmington, NC. 

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her step-father Michael McDaniel; and two sisters, Margaret Bland and Gina McDaniel.

She was a talented singer, and was often called upon to sing for family events and during church services. She was known for giving back to others participating in multiple volunteer projects over the years for causes that were important to her. She loved watching sports, and hated to miss watching the Carolina Panthers play. One of her greatest personal achievements was going back to school as an adult earning her Bachelor’s of Social Work from Meredith College in 1998. She was proud of the work she did with Child Protective Services, developmentally disabled people, and as a nursing home activities director/staff social worker.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of 26 years, Mitchell Porter of Hampstead, NC; her three children, Elizabeth Mims (James) of Rougemont, NC, Sam Glazier (Gianni) of Wake Forest, NC, and Michael Glazier of Troy, NY; her seven grandchildren Isabelle, Laurie, Katie, Ricky Anella, Camilla, and Sammy; three sisters Louise Whiteted (Howard), Michelle Tew (Danny), and Laura Brandon; and a special family friend Stephanie Parker; as well as many other friends and family members who were loved dearly.

The family will hold a private celebration of life in the coming weeks.
