Elizabeth (Buffy) Junkin Burton, age 71, of Wilmington, North Carolina passed away on Tuesday, January 27th 2026 at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare after a courageous battle with cancer. She was reunited in heaven with her beloved husband of over 40 years, Wallace Eric “Ricky” Burton of Calhoun, Georgia.
Buffy was born in Bethesda, Maryland on June 20, 1954; daughter of the late Elizabeth “Betty” Junkin and the late George Junkin. Buffy worked as a travel agent while she and Ricky raised their children in Georgia, Maryland and North Carolina. They then settled in Carolina Beach, NC to be close to their grandchildren. Buffy lived in the Trinity Landing Community of Wilmington for the final years of her life where she was surrounded by countless friends and enjoyed playing scrabble, volunteering and her regular bourbon club.
Buffy is survived by her son, Christopher Wallace Burton of Woodstock, Georgia and his wife, Emily Berry Burton; daughter, Leslie Elizabeth McIntosh of Wilmington, North Carolina and her husband, William Andrew McIntosh Jr.; three grandchildren, Abigail, Warren and Andy; one sister, Julia Junkin of Bethany Beach, Delaware; one brother, Timothy Junkin and his wife Kristin Junkin of Easton, Maryland along with many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3:00 pm, Saturday, February 28th at the Trinity Landing Community located at 5450 Trinity Landing Way, Wilmington, NC 28409.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare to which the family is extremely grateful for their compassionate care.
