Wilmington - Doris Ann Diorio, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2026, at the age of 86. Born on February 4, 1940, in Trenton, Michigan, Doris lived a life filled with love, creativity, and dedication to her family and community. She will be remembered for her kindness, joy of life and her sweet tooth. Her legacy of love and artistry will continue to inspire all who knew her.

Doris devoted much of her life to being a homemaker, where she created a warm and nurturing environment for her family. Her artistic talents were well-known, particularly her skill in tole painting, which she shared with her best friend, Pat Steers. Together, they exhibited their work at craft shows for 15 years, bringing joy and beauty to many. Doris also enjoyed cookie baking, card making, and cherished corresponding with her family and friends across the country.

Her love for animals was evident throughout her life, and she found great joy in the companionship of her furry children, Stray and Dixie, who preceded her in death. Doris was also a long-time volunteer with the Community Education Organization (CEOS) in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia, where she dedicated her time and energy to serving others.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Earl Barker and Lucy Eppenbrock Barker; her husband, Donald A. Diorio; her brother, Kenneth Barker; and her beloved pets, Stray and Dixie. She is survived by her loving sons, Mark Dean, Matthew Dean and his wife Wendy, and Peter Dean and his wife, Dawn; her devoted daughter, Diana MacKnew and husband Aaron; and her cherished grandchildren, Dean Thompson, Brian Thompson, Justin Thompson, Asher Dean, Nicholas Dean, Nathan Dean, Henry Dean, and Jackson Dean. She also leaves behind her dear cousins, Father Donald Eppenbrock and Janie Shuart, and her final cat companion Precious.

Services for Doris are not currently scheduled. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to any animal rescue organization in your area, honoring her lifelong love for animals.
