Wilmington - Bynum Kermit Merritt III, affectionately known to all as Kevin, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2025 at the age of 55 leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness that will be cherished by all who knew him. Born on January 13, 1970, Kevin lived a life full of creativity, compassion and unwavering faith.

Kevin dedicated his professional life to the construction industry where his hard work and dedication were evident in every project he undertook. Beyond his career he was a man of many passions. He found joy in drawing and writing, often expressing his thoughts and emotions through art and the written word. His devotion to Bible studies was a testament to his deep spiritual beliefs which led him to his Baptism on October 22. 2023.

A true people person, Kevin never met a stranger. He loved spending time with friends and family, always ready with a warm smile and listening ear. His love for animals, especially dogs, was well known and he found great comfort and companionship in their presence.

Kevin is preceded in death by his beloved grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Merritt, Mr. and Mrs. Williams and Mr. and Mrs. Marley; and his cousin Brady Smith.

He is survived by a loving family who will forever hold his memory close: his mother Ann Marley, father Kermit Merritt Jr., step-mother Helen Merritt; aunts and uncles Linda and John Howarth, Terry and Wick Smith, aunt Emily McCraken, aunt Sarah Jernigan; and cousins Marley Goodson and Husband Terek and Tara Smith with daughter Emileigh Smith; also two very special friends who provided unconditional love and support, Sara Young and Jeannie Wade.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date to honor Kevin's remarkable journey and the indelible mark he left on the hearts of those who knew him.

Kevin's warmth, creativity and kindness will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the memories of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
